About Hotel Chhuti

A homely stay, since 2010

Two houses, one family. One a short walk from the sea at Bakkhali, the other in the pines at Lava, beside the monastery.

ছুটি মানে বিশ্রাম — ঘরের মতো আরাম, ঘরের মতো খাবার।

Hotel Chhuti opened at Bakkhali in 2010. It began as a small house run by one family, and that is more or less what it still is. The hotel sits a short walk from the sea, and about 300 metres from the market and the bus stand — near enough that you can buy fruit or catch the first bus out without arranging a car.

Over the years, guests kept asking the same thing: where do we go next. So the family opened a second house, this time in the hills — at Lava in Kalimpong district, right beside the Lava Monastery. On a clear morning the Kanchenjunga sits on the horizon behind the ridge, and the rest of the day belongs to the pines and the mist.

The two places could not look more different, and they are run exactly the same way. Clean rooms, food cooked when you ask for it, and someone who picks up the phone. That is the whole idea.

What we believe

We have never made a promise on this website that we cannot keep at the front desk. These three are the ones we hold ourselves to.

Food you would eat at home

Fresh fish at Bakkhali, simple hill cooking at Lava. Cooked to order, not held under a lamp. Tell us if you would like it less spicy and we will.

Polite behaviour, always

The people who run the desk are the family and the people who have worked with us for years. You will be spoken to properly, at any hour.

Honest pricing

The rate you see is the rate you pay. No surprise service charge at check-out, and no quiet increase because it is a long weekend.

Why booking direct is cheaper

When you book through a travel website, that site keeps a commission on every night — often fifteen to twenty per cent. The hotel has to price for that, so the rate you are shown there already carries it.

Book on this site and there is no commission to pay, so there is nothing to build into the rate. You are also talking to the people who will actually hand you the key, which helps when a train is late or a room needs changing.
